Understanding and Editing Member Max Heart Rate

To establish an accurate estimate of maximum heart rate, Myzone utilizes the HUNT formula: Max HR = 211 – (0.64 x age). Adjust MHR for members who run above or below the population norm on the Admin Portal.

Understanding and accurately setting maximum heart rate (MHR) is essential for designing effective and safe exercise programs. Heart rate serves as a vital indicator of workout intensity, while monitoring how well your heart recovers from exercise provides valuable insights into cardiovascular health.

To establish an accurate estimate of maximum heart rate, Myzone utilizes the HUNT formula (2013), which has been proven to be the most reliable calculation method for large populations:

Max HR = 211 – (0.64 x age)

It's important to recognize that this calculation provides an estimate based on population norms. However, if an individual is capable of pushing beyond this age-predicted number for at least 30 seconds, their Myzone profile will automatically adjust to reflect their actual capabilities.

By setting an accurate MHR, you can optimize your workouts, ensure appropriate intensity levels, and tailor your exercise regimen to your specific cardiovascular needs. Myzone empowers you to track and understand your heart's response to exercise, enabling you to make informed decisions about your fitness journey.

Max Heart Rate (MHR) Adjustment for Accuracy

It is not uncommon to have a MHR that is higher or lower than the equation suggests. If you suspect that you or a client/member's Max HR may not be accurate, here's a general rule to follow:

  • MHR may be too low if you can easily reach and sustain the red zone frequently.
  • MHR may be too high if you struggle to reach the red and/or yellow zones, even with significant effort and the need for recovery periods.
